2. ⛪ Arrival at Mycenae

Our guide will greet you as you arrive at the archaeological site of Mycenae. You’ll be given an overview of the history of the site, including its rise to prominence during the 14th century BCE and its importance during the Bronze Age.

3. 🏛️ Exploring the Archaeological Site of Mycenae

The Lion Gate: Our guide will first take you to the iconic Lion Gate, the main entrance to the citadel. This monumental stone gate features a relief of two lions and is one of the most famous symbols of ancient Greece.

The Acropolis: Wander through the palace complex at the heart of Mycenae. Your guide will point out the ruins of the royal quarters and explain how Mycenaeans lived, governed, and conducted their ceremonies.

The Grave Circles: One of the most moving parts of the tour is the visit to the Grave Circle A—where King Agamemnon's (and other royals’) tombs were found. The wealth of the graves speaks to the power and prosperity of Mycenae, with gold masks, jewelry, and weapons having been unearthed.

The Treasury of Atreus: Visit the Tholos Tomb (also called the Treasury of Atreus), one of the largest and most impressive beehive-shaped tombs of its time. This tomb is notable for its architectural marvel, including the massive corbelled dome that still stands strong after 3,000 years.

Along the way, Our guide will share stories from Greek mythology. Mycenae is deeply tied to tales of gods and heroes, and our guide will discuss the legends surrounding Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, and Helen of Troy.

This part of the tour will give you insights into how these myths were rooted in the real historical events of the Mycenaean era.

5. 🐟 Lunch at a Local Taverna

After exploring the ruins, enjoy a traditional Greek lunch(own expence) at a local taverna near Mycenae. The cuisine in this region of Greece is a delight, so expect dishes like moussaka, souvlaki, and fresh salads with local olives and feta.

6. Visit the Archaeological Museum of Mycenae

After lunch, we head to the Archaeological Museum of Mycenae, located just outside the site. The museum houses a wealth of artifacts from the Mycenaean period, including pottery, weapons, and frescoes.

Our guide will walk you through some of the most important pieces, adding context to what you saw at the ruins and explaining the day-to-day life of Mycenaeans.

7. 🌅 Optional Visit to Nearby Nafplio

Depending on the time and your interests, the tour may include a visit to Nafplio, a charming seaside town just 30 minutes away. Nafplio is a beautiful place to explore with its Venetian architecture, fortresses, and charming old town.

A walk around the Palamidi Fortress or a stroll along the harbor would make a nice complement to your archaeological experience.

8. Return to Athens

You’ll be driven back to Athens or your starting point, reflecting on the incredible history and mythology you’ve experienced during the day.
